Tributes have been pouring in for Brooklyn rapper Ka\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Underground rapper Ka, who worked as a firefighter in\u00a0New York\u00a0alongside his music career, has died aged 52.<\/p>\n

Ka, whose real name was Kaseem Ryan, spent two decades in the fire department and was a first responder for the September 11 terror attacks while also releasing music.<\/p>\n

A statement on his official\u00a0Instagram\u00a0said he died \u2018unexpectedly\u2019 on October 12 in New\u00a0York\u00a0City.<\/p>\n

It said: \u2018We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Kaseem Ryan (1972-2024), the rapper and producer known as Ka, who died unexpectedly in New York City on October 12, at the age of 52.<\/p>\n

\u2018Born and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn, Ka lived a life of service \u2013 to his city, to his community, and to his music.<\/p>\n

\u2018As a 20-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, he put his life on the line to protect his fellow citizens. Ka rose to the rank of FDNY captain and was a first responder on September 11, 2001 during the attacks on the World Trade Center.<\/p>\n

\u2018He leaves an extraordinary legacy as a recording artist, including eleven remarkable self-released solo albums.<\/p>\n

\u2018Ka is survived by his wife, mother and sister. We kindly ask that the privacy of Ka\u2019s family and loved ones be respected as they grieve this incalculable loss.\u2019<\/p>\n

Tributes have been paid on Instagram with @superior27 writing: \u2018My absolute favorite artist has passed away. Rest in peace, king.\u2019<\/p>\n
