A-ha\u2019s chart-topping hit, \u201cTake on Me\u201d reached two billion\u00a0YouTube\u00a0views this week, marking the first song released in that decade to achieve this milestone.<\/p>\n

The Norwegian trio \u2014 Magne Furuholmen, Morten Harket and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, who were 22, 26 and 24, respectively at the time \u2014 released their debut album,\u00a0Hunting High and Low<\/em>, in 1985, and shot the eye-catching video for lead single \u201cTake On Me.\u201d Directed by Steve Barron (Michael Jackson\u2019s \u201cBillie Jean\u201d), the clip\u2019s combination of pencil-sketch animation and live action made it popular on MTV, and the track\u00a0reached No.\u00a01\u00a0in its 15th week on the chart, making A-ha the first Norwegian group to top the Hot 100.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0back in 2019, Furuholmen paid tribute to the clip\u2019s longevity. \u201cObviously the video is unique and it has some features that stand up and stand the test of time. It\u2019s hand drawn which makes it what it is,\u201d the\u00a0keyboardist noted. \u201cThe song also seems to resonate with people across time. It\u2019s just very fortunate to have such a big song in our catalogue. We probably spent a few years talking it down, trying to get people to focus on new stuff we\u2019re doing. At this point, certainly speaking for myself, I\u2019m just surprised and proud that the song has done so well and still finds an audience.\u201d<\/p>\n
