South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris has five spots to fill on his roster, and the Gamecocks have been investigating the transfer portal as they look for the players that will fill those spots. This weekend, a pair of guards\u2019 names have surfaced as potential transfer targets for USC.<\/p>\n
Former Albany Great Danes guard\u00a0Amar\u2019e Marshall<\/strong>\u00a0told The Portal Report that the Gamecocks have reached out to him. Then, Jon Rothstein reported that former Vanderbilt guard\u00a0MJ Collins<\/strong>\u00a0heard from Carolina, as well.<\/p>\n Marshall is a rising senior who has a nice combination of size and shooting ability. His best shooting days were earlier in his career at Hofstra, but at 35.2% this season, he\u2019s still capable from outside. Marshall is a tough defender and a solid rebounder for a guard.<\/p>\n Collins is a South Carolina native and a big-time athlete. While he doesn\u2019t provide much on his own offensively, he can contribute on that end by running the floor in transition and making crisp off-ball cuts to the basket. For a guard, he\u2019s big, strong, and hard-nosed.<\/p>\n At this stage, it is unclear how involved Carolina will be with Marshall or Collins. Marshall hasn\u2019t drawn much other power conference interest so far. Fellow SEC programs Mississippi State and Missouri also have contacted Collins.<\/p>\n Following the recent NBA Draft declaration of Collin Murray-Boyles and the decommitment of transfer portal pledge Treysen Eaglestaff, USC needs to bring in multiple impact players.
