With\u00a0Billboard Hot 100\u00a0hits like \u201cHungry Like the Wolf,\u201d \u201cUnion of the Snake,\u201d \u201cNew Moon on Monday\u201d and \u201cA View to a Kill,\u201d Duran Duran\u2019s catalog is frighteningly fitting for spooky season. So in 2022, when the English quartet found itself playing a\u00a0Halloween-night gig in Las Vegas ahead of its induction into the\u00a0Rock\u00a0& Roll Hall of Fame, the band decided to don costumes, sprinkle in seasonally appropriate covers and embrace the darkness.<\/p>\n

The show was successful enough to inspire the band\u2019s 2023 album,\u00a0Danse Macabre<\/em>, a top 10 hit on the\u00a0Top Album Sales\u00a0chart (the band also recently turned it into concert doc,\u00a0Secret Oktober<\/em>,\u00a0available here). With an expanded version of the album out now, the veterans \u2014 who have grossed $118.6 million and sold 1.8 million tickets since 1987, according to Billboard Boxscore \u2014 are set to play a show at New York\u2019s Madison Square Garden on Oct. 31 that keyboardist Nick Rhodes promises \u201cwill be entirely different than any other Duran Duran show you will ever see.\u201d<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t celebrate it in such grand style as you do in America. I remember the first time I came to America was over the Halloween period. I literally thought, \u201cWow, they\u2019re so far ahead of us. Why don\u2019t we have these giant blow-up things outside our houses? Why can\u2019t bats be 20 feet wide?\u201d I love the sense of fun, the absurdity and that everybody gets to be a villain for a day.<\/p>\n

The deluxe\u00a0<\/strong>Danse Macabre<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0has \u201cNew Moon (Dark Phase),\u201d a moodier take on one of your classics; a cover of ELO\u2019s \u201cEvil Woman\u201d; and \u201cMasque of the Pink Death,\u201d which I\u2019m guessing is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always been a great admirer [of Poe]. We grew up in England in the \u201970s, where Hammer horror movies on [TV on] a Friday night, whether it was a\u00a0Dracula<\/em>\u00a0or a mummy movie, were the thing you looked forward to all week. Plus, [I love] Tim Burton\u2019s great contribution to everyone who loves goth. Those things shape the way you feel about life and the possibilities creatively. That\u2019s what makes artists unique \u2014 their influences and the different areas they take from, even if it\u2019s subliminal.<\/p>\n
