Jamey Johnson has a\u00a0new single out\u00a0called \u201cSober\u201d with the repeating phrase \u201cIt\u2019s so hard staying sober in this town.\u201d But for the country crooner, staying away from alcohol is easy for him. He\u00a0told\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0magazine\u00a0that he hasn\u2019t had a drop of booze in almost fifteen years.\u00a0\u201cI had my last drink in September 2011.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t play games with the alcohol. That\u2019s what led me down a dark path of self-destruction back then and I barely survived.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He couldn\u2019t be happier living an alcohol-free life.\u00a0\u201cWith a sober mind, I\u2019m able to do things like get a pilot\u2019s license, manage a business, start a product line.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Johnson\u00a0clarified that he was sober\u00a0from pot from 2015 until a few years ago. But\u00a0\u201cevery now and then, I may still break out a joint if I\u2019m writing or something like that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

How Toby Keith\u2019s Death Inspired New Album<\/h3>\n

Jamey Johnson released his last full album in 2010 with\u00a0The Guitar Song.<\/em>\u00a0His new album titled\u00a0Midnight<\/em>\u00a0Gasoline<\/em>\u00a0comes out this Friday. During the interview with\u00a0Billboard<\/em>, he opened up about how Toby Keith\u2019s death in early 2024 was the catalyst behind finishing the record.\u00a0Toby Keith passed away\u00a0in February after a battle with stomach cancer.<\/p>\n
