CBS Report: In a major development for Purdue Basketball, CBS Sports has confirmed that five-star guard **Braden Smith** has officially agreed to a **four-year contract extension*

""

In a major development for Purdue Basketball, CBS Sports has confirmed that five-star guard **Braden Smith** has officially agreed to a **four-year contract extension** with the Boilermakers, solidifying his future with the team after an impressive rise to national stardom. The extension includes a **significant pay raise** under the updated NCAA NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) agreements, positioning Smith among the top-compensated college athletes in the country.

The decision comes after months of speculation about Smith’s future, following a breakout season where he not only led Purdue to the Final Four but also earned All-Big Ten honors and national recognition for his leadership and playmaking ability. Sources close to the program say the extension includes multiple NIL partnership deals valued in the **seven-figure range**, making it one of the most lucrative agreements in college basketball this year.

CBS Sports reports that Purdue Athletic Director Mike Bobinski and Head Coach Matt Painter played crucial roles in securing Smith’s long-term commitment. “Braden is the heart of this program,” Painter said in a statement. “He’s a fierce competitor, a true leader, and represents everything we stand for at Purdue. This extension reflects not only his on-court success but also his impact on and off the court.”

Smith’s new deal will keep him in West Lafayette through the 2028 season, with provisions for personal brand development, media training, and community engagement opportunities. The move also sends a strong signal that Purdue is serious about competing at the highest level, retaining elite talent in an era where top players often transfer or leave early for professional opportunities.

The extension also provides stability for a Purdue team looking to build on last season’s deep tournament run. With Smith at the helm as point guard, the Boilermakers are expected to enter the upcoming season as favorites to win the Big Ten and a serious contender for the national title.

Fans and analysts alike have praised the university’s aggressive strategy in securing top talent amid an increasingly competitive NIL landscape. “This is a blueprint for how college programs can thrive in the new era,” said CBS analyst Jon Rothstein. “Braden Smith staying at Purdue is a win for college basketball.”

Braden Smith, speaking to CBS after the announcement, expressed his excitement about the future: “Purdue has always believed in me, and I’m proud to keep building something special here. This place is home, and I’m not done yet.”

With this extension, Purdue not only retains a superstar but also reinforces its status as a national powerhouse capable of navigating the new collegiate sports economy. Fans can expect big things from Braden Smith and the Boilermakers in the seasons ahead.
