Simon Baker, an Australian actor and director, pleaded guilty to drink driving in a New South Wales court.<\/p>\n
Baker was captured inebriated behind the vehicle on a road near his house in the Byron Bay district early on July 20.<\/p>\n
He was excused from appearing at Mullumbimby Court House on Wednesday, but court documents reveal that the 55-year-old admitted to a single charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, which was his first offence.<\/p>\n
Baker has been in Home and Away, The Devil Wears Prada, and received Emmy and Golden Globe nods for his starring role in the American crime drama series The Mentalist.<\/p>\n
He grew up in northern New South Wales and learnt his craft on legendary Australian productions such as Heartbreak High and A Country Practice.<\/p>\n
He received Best New Talent at the Logies, Australia’s highest television honours, in 1993, but quickly relocated to the United States, where he earned a role in the Academy Award-winning film L.A. Confidential.<\/p>\n
After two decades in Hollywood, where he was honoured with a Walk of Fame star, Baker returned to Australian film and television, expanding out into both directing and acting.<\/p>\n
He was just nominated for Best Lead Actor at the Logies for his part in the popular Netflix series Boy Swallows Universe.<\/p>\n
He is scheduled to appear in Mullumbimby Court House again on September 11, where he will face sentence.<\/p>\n
