""In one of the most dramatic moments in tennis history, former tennis pro Jeff Tarango’s wife, Benedicte, slapped umpire Bruno Rebeuh during the 1995 Wimbledon Championships. The incident occurred after Tarango, frustrated with Rebeuh’s calls, accused the umpire of being “corrupt” and walked off the court, forfeiting the match.

The drama didn’t end there. Benedicte later confronted Rebeuh in the players’ area and slapped him, sparking widespread controversy. Many players, including 22-time Grand Slam champion Steffi Graf, were asked to weigh in on the incident. Graf, known for her calm demeanor, found the situation quite amusing, though she acknowledged it wasn’t appropriate.

“She must have a lot of guts to do that, and she must like her husband very much,” Graf said with a smile before turning serious. “I don’t think it’s very appropriate. I think she must be – no, I don’t want to say it – maybe a little out of her mind for a couple of minutes.”
