Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy on Friday described the injury as being more severe than the team originally expected, a day after Dallas’ 20-15 win over the New York Giants. Lawrence suffered the injury in the third quarter as he chased Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. A closer look at his sprain revealed no bones were displaced, meaning he won’t need surgery, but the standout defender is still likely headed to injured reserve, which would keep him out at least four games. The Cowboys (2-2) have an extended break before Week 5 with what appears to be a challenging stretch ahead. The Cowboys play the Steelers in primetime Oct. 6 at Pittsburgh and host the Detroit Lions in Week 6 before a bye week.<\/p>\n
