Before they kicked off Sunday Night Football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys’ players and coaches were already informed of a situation that seemed unthinkable when the 2024 season began in September. Despite having one of the league’s most talented rosters, the 6-8 Cowboys were eliminated from playoff contention due to other teams’ outcomes.<\/p>\n
Long-time owner Jerry Jones and embattled head coach Mike McCarthy have been blamed for Dallas’ disappointing season. McCarthy has led the Cowboys while dealing with the uncertainty of an expiring contract, a wave of injuries, and persistent rumours that Jones was looking to replace him in 2025 with University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, who won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys in 1995 as their star cornerback. Despite Sanders’ rising coaching status as a result of Colorado’s successful season, Jones has been consistent in his resolve to sticking with McCarthy, whom he hired in 2020.<\/p>\n
