<\/p>\nWe all know that Cole Caufield, a young forward for the Montreal Canadiens, is one of the top scorers in the NHL. We also know he’s one of the finest scorers in the United States, and he should have been chosen for the Four Nations Showdown.<\/p>\n
However, this was not the case.<\/p>\n
He was not chosen by General Manager Bill Guerin, who rationalized his choice by claiming that they need players in every position, and scorers are filled by bigger players such as Auston Matthews (now sidelined) and Jack Eichel.<\/p>\n
However, an intriguing piece of information just emerged, suggesting that Guerin was still willing to include Caufield in his team.<\/p>\n
It is uncommon to see this, but he explicitly requested an exception from the NHL to put Caufield on his roster.<\/p>\n

A request was submitted to the NHL to increase the roster size and add Cole Caufield to Team USA.
\nAccording to Renaud Lavoie, General Manager Bill Guerin seemed to have struggled to keep Cole Caufield off his roster.<\/p>\n
He even contacted the NHL, requesting that roster sizes be increased from 23 to 25.<\/p>\n
The purpose of this request was to include none other than Cole Caufield, assuring a well-deserved berth for one of the nation’s top scorers.<\/p>\n
This is fascinating for two reasons.<\/p>\n
First, it demonstrates that it is true. Caufield was actually one of the finalists for a seat on Team USA.<\/p>\n
Second, it demonstrates that in the event of an injury (which, sadly, is sure to occur to at least one player), Caufield will be immediately called up as a replacement.<\/p>\n
