According to Deadline, ABC and ABC Studios decided on Monday not to renew the 37-year-old actress’s contract as Detective Kate Beckett for Castle’s ninth season.<\/p>\n
“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past eight years,” ABC told ET. “We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship.”<\/p>\n
On Monday, Katic issued a statement in response to the news, stating, “Rather than distract from what was an incredible experience, I’d simply like to say that I’m very thankful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a widely liked show.<\/p>\n
Tamala Jones, the actress’ co-star and on-screen bestie who played medical examiner Dr. Lanie Parish, will also not return for the program’s ninth season, and the casting change has prompted uproar among fans and those closest to the show. Castle founders and real-life husbands Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller, who resigned as showrunners last year, also expressed amazement on Twitter. Marlowe wrote: “Heartbroken. Nathan Fillion, who played Katic’s on-screen husband and partner, mystery writer Richard Castle, expressed his sadness on Twitter.<\/p>\n
“Stana has been my partner all this time and I thank her for creating the character of Beckett who will live on for all of us as one of the greatest police officers on television,” he wrote. “I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed.”<\/p>\n
