Anthony followed in his dad’s musical footsteps from a young age, learning to play drums as a toddler and touring with his father’s band, Maze, in his early 20s.

“Grieving the loss of a loved one is a deeply personal and emotional experience,” the family wrote on Instagram. “During this time, as we are navigating feelings of sorrow, reflection, and remembrance we kindly ask for privacy and understanding, allowing us the space to grieve in our own way.”

He’s a drummer and toured with Maze

Anthony Beverly is a musician in his own right. He began playing drums at age 4, he said on The Cheron Moore Extraordinary Drummers Show in 2023.

“My mom used to say I would go pull out the pots and pans and grab two butter knives or something like that and play the drums,” he recalled.

“My dad bought me a Mickey Mouse drum set and (my mom) said he was setting it up, and I couldn’t wait to get on it,” he added.

Beverly began his career as a professional drummer when he was 20, according to his LinkedIn profile, playing with artists including Christopher Williams, Troop and his dad’s own band, Maze.

He spent about two years playing with his dad, he said in his interview with Cheron Moore, and described that time as going to “groove school.”

“I knew how to play pocket and all that stuff until I got on that stage with him,” he said. “And it was like, ‘OK, I need you to pull that snare drum back, I need you to pull that kick drum back, but don’t lose time.’”

“So I’m sitting there like, ‘What?’” he continued with a laugh. “But I understood more as I played with him more.”

Beverly said when he was touring with Maze, being Frankie Beverly’s son did not grant him any special privileges.

“When I was sitting in that drum chair then … it was extra hot … because he could say different things to me that he couldn’t say to other guys,” he told Moore, but added that his dad never said “bad things.”

“He’s since slowed down in his older age but man, that is the toughest gig I’ve ever done,” he said.

He honored Frankie Beverly with a tribute album in 2009

Beverly honored his father’s legacy with a tribute album in 2009 called “Silky Soul Music … An All-Star Tribute to Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly.”

He co-produced the album through Brantera Music Group, a company he co-founded with his then-wife, entertainment attorney Heather Nelson-Beverly.

The album featured contributions from artists including Mary J. Blige and Musiq Soulchild, Joe, and the Clark Sisters, according to the Associated Press.

“I want to properly honor my father’s contributions to the industry,” Beverly told the AP. “Not only is this an accomplished group of artists, with diverse and distinctive voices, they are all Frankie Beverly and Maze fans.”

He has opened up about his ‘cool’ relationship with his dad

Anthony Beverly reflected on his relationship with his father in his 2023 interview with Moore, explaining that despite his dad’s fame, he felt they had a “typical father-son relationship.”

“He is who he is, but for me, that’s my father,” he said. “So like a lot of times, we get together and talk music, and then most of the time we don’t. It’s real cool. We’ve got a real cool relationship, and the older I get, the better it gets.”

He also told Moore that he is “a lot like” his dad musically.

“I have his ears, and I listen to music, and if it’s not right — Oh my God, I just want to cut my ears off. I have his ears, for sure,” he told Moore.

Anthony Beverly’s children have followed in their grandfather’s musical footsteps in different ways

Anthony Beverly has a son, Brandon, and two daughters, Ava and Tiera.

Brandon Beverly, his eldest, works in music management, and he previously spent two years as a road manager and personal assistant for Frankie Beverly, according to what appears to be Brandon’s LinkedIn profile.

Tiera Beverly is an R&B soul singer-songwriter and released a single, “Can’t Talk,” in 2019.

Anthony Beverly’s youngest, Ava Beverly, is also a gifted singer like her sister Tiera, he told Moore in their interview last year.

“That singing gene skipped me,” he said. “But I tell you, my two daughters, both of them sing like birds.”

Anthony Beverly was previously married to entertainment attorney Heather Nelson-Beverly and appears to be currently married to Candy Beverly, who has shared photos from what looks like their wedding on Instagram.
