Lawrence North receiver Davion Chandler will sign with Indiana on Wednesday, the start of the early signing period for college football. Chandler explains, in his own words, why he committed to the Hoosiers:
Choosing to sign with Indiana University is one of the most exciting decisions of my life, and it’s something I’ve been working toward since I started playing football when I was 5.
What sold me on Indiana is the confidence of Coach Cig. He and his coaching staff have turned the football program around as shown by the team’s record this year. The moment I stepped on IU’s campus, I could feel the passion from coaches, players and fans.
How IU’s success impacted recruiting:‘Everything is on the up-and-up.’
IU’s academic reputation and the opportunities to succeed off the field are equally important to me. I want to pursue a degree that will set me up for life after football, and I know IU provides the resources to do that.
Signing with Indiana is not just about football. It’s about setting myself up for the future, growing as a person and being a part of something real — a family of players and coaches who are committed to success. My first recruiting offer was from Indiana, and they recruited me the hardest. I was hesitant to flip my initial commitment to IU’s program and its 3-9 record, but I ended up putting my trust in Coach Cig and his staff, and I’m glad I did.
Playing for one of the top schools in the country while being in my home state is special. I’m blessed to continue my journey at Indiana University.
