Murder in a Small Town, Fox’s psychological crime drama starring Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk, has expanded its cast.
Stars James Cromwell (Succession) and Stana Katic (Castle) will join the show’s cast. Mya Lowe, Savonna Spracklin, Aaron Douglas, and Fritzy-Klevans Destine have all joined the cast.
According to Deadline, Fox acquired the U.S. rights to the series in December, marking the company’s first scripted international co-production under the new model.
Sutherland plays Karl Alberg, a detective who travels to a tranquil beach village in quest of peace of mind, only to discover that “this gentle paradise has more than its share of secrets”. Kreuk portrays Cassandra, a town librarian who serves as Alberg’s “muse, foil, and romantic interest”.
Murder in a Small Town is based on L.R. Wright’s “Karl Alberg” stories. It is produced by head writer Ian Weir (Edgemont), director Milan Cheylov (The Cleaning Lady), and Canada’s Sepia Films in collaboration with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment, which is owned by former USA Network President Jeff Wachtel.
Cromwell plays George Wilcox, a retired history teacher who loves his garden. The recent death of Myra, his wife of over 50 years, was a devastating blow, but George is a resolute man who intends to carry on. He and Cassandra became friends through his frequent visits to the Gibson’s library. Then there’s his “acquaintance” Carlyle Burke, who is 80 years old. Beneath that relationship is a profound pain that dates back many decades.
Katic plays Zoe, who lives in a beautiful mansion outside of town and normally keeps to herself, but her cool appearance conceals a nature capable of exploding in bouts of rage.
Lowe (My Life with the Walter Boys) portrays criminology graduate Corporal Edwina Yen, a newcomer on the coast and a cop on the rise. Spracklin (Departure) portrays Isabella Harbud, a civilian receptionist with a sarcastic sense of humor. Douglas (Battlestar Galactica) portrays Sergeant Sid Sokolowski, Alberg’s second-in-command. Destine (The Boys) portrays Constable Andy Kendrick, a capable cop who is also a charming fool.
