Fans have been salivating at the thought of this show for quite some time, but the longer it goes on, the less likely it is to materialize. It has gotten so implausible that the stars of the planned proposal are receiving alternate offers. We’re not discussing other offers outside of Trek; we’re talking about other Star Trek ventures.
According to our own Rachel Carrington, Ryan was given a new project within Star Trek to reprise her role as Seven of Nine. Ryan announced at Spacecon that she has been offered a different show based on Seven of Nine.
“There was gossip. And once Picard finished, I was given an idea that was not the Legacy show that I know the fans want to see. But it wasn’t me. It did not feel like the appropriate thing.
Ryan did add that she remains optimistic about the project, saying, “Never say never” to the show. Nonetheless, she is already receiving proposals to return to the franchise, outside of the show that she and the fans desire. That tells me that Paramount+ isn’t interested in producing a Legacy series.
Keep in mind that production for Picard’s last season concluded over three years ago, in March 2022. In three years, there has been no progress on any follow-up initiative. That’s quite incriminating, especially because Star Trek has already greenlit Starfleet Academy’s second season, even before a teaser has been released. Let alone one entire season.
This is the traditional saying, “If they wanted to, they would”. If Paramount+ wanted to produce Legacy, they would. None of the main performers are involved in another Trek project, and they’ve had nearly three years to approve it. They did Starfleet Academy instead.
This show’s window is fast closing, if it hasn’t already.
