With Christmas just two weeks away, the new holiday songs start coming in. Coco Jones’s latest EP, Coco By The Fireplace, includes four new Christmas carols. On the feature track, “Santa Is Me,” Ms. Jones takes a fresh approach to the Eartha Kitt classic “Santa Baby,” expressing her independence with a self-love song about putting all the presents beneath her own tree.
“Nothing else on my wishlist / Got all I want this Christmas / I get it for myself, ’cause baby Santa is me,” she sings on the chorus, noting in the second verse, “Don’t need to hide boxes / Because I know who bought it.”
Coco is a year removed from the tour for her debut EP What I Didn’t Tell You, and her new single, “Here We Go,” was released in May to build anticipation for its follow-up. In the meantime, she appeared on Latto’s latest album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. For the time being, it’s impossible to predict what the new year will bring, but fans may appreciate the present Coco has just given them as they wait for updates on her upcoming album.
