A Fife theatrical company that performed two performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is bringing one of them to the Kings theatrical in Kirkcaldy for one night only.
Shapiro: A Pop Star Musical will take the stage at the Esplanade venue on Saturday, August 31, at 7:30 p.m. Its five-night run sold out the small studio at the new Greenside @ George Street venue, where it was part of a lineup of other concerts. It now returns to the Lang Toun venue, where it rehearsed before debuting at the world’s finest arts festival. Tickets available at https://www.kingstheatrekirkcaldy.com/event-details/shapiro-a-pop-star-musical.

The Kingdom Theatre Company’s new musical chronicles the early life of pop phenomenon Helen Shapiro. In 1961, at the age of 15, she scored two number one hits, including “Walk Back To Happiness,” and sold 40,000 albums per day.
By the age of 16, she had five top ten songs and had toured with The Beatles, but her stardom was short-lived, beginning to fade in her late teens. She has continued to perform and sing, and she met with the young cast early this year as they prepared to bring her narrative to life on stage.
Shapiro: A Pop Star Musical was written by John Murray, a Fife Free Press columnist, and includes original songs by him and local musician Willie Logan, as well as her greatest hits.
