You’d have to be living under a rock to have missed the good news about Wicked by now. Since its release in theaters at the end of November, Jon M. Chu’s film has soared to global box office success, earning a slew of special awards along the way.
The only reason people aren’t saying “thank goodness” is that we have to wait another year before the next chapter, which debuts on November 21, 2025. Previously known as Wicked: Part Two, the follow-up installment has been renamed Wicked: For Good. The new title refers to one of the original musical’s last songs, an emotional number in which the two closest friends, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande), sing their hearts out about what the other means to them. Along with the rest of Glinda and Elphaba’s journey, audiences can expect some new toe-tapping songs from the musical’s original composer and writer, Stephen Schwartz, as well as lots of viral choreography from Scott.
Chu also hinted to the continued development of Nessa’s (Marissa Bode) and Boq’s (Ethan Slater) relationship, as well as Fiyero’s (Jonathan Bailey) terrible fate, saying, “I’m not supposed to be talking about Part Two!” [Laughs] But for Collider, I’ll say that if you’re familiar with the Nessa and Boq tale, you know that they finally get to see those characters develop, and what they’re able to do with that is mind-blowing and tragic. What happened to Fiyero? Every single thing. And now that I know the public is as invested in those girls and their love as I am, it’s going to crush.” Regarding his and the rest of the team’s post-production status, the director stated:
