Rassie Erasmus, the Springboks’ head coach, welcomed South Africans to a Christmas Day gathering in Cape Town, asking them to join him for a walk down Blouberg Strand.
Erasmus shared a photo of his bulldog Frank, who appeared to be carrying some extra weight while sitting on a treadmill, and suggested the pooch was trying to send him a message, while also inviting any South Africans interested in joining him for some early-morning exercise on the beachfront.
“Frank is trying to tell me something. If anyone is interested, we will meet in Bloubergstrand at 06h00 on Wednesday in front of Doodles for a quick walk (not a run) of 3km out and 3 back! If you are interested, see you there! Perhaps let me know in the comments! Lekka.”
Many people accepted his invitation and joined the Bok coach on the Christmas Day trek. Afterwards, Erasmus posted images and videos from the morning, thanking everyone who came for making the occasion so wonderful.
“It was incredibly lekka!! Thank you to everyone for making it so casual and fun! “Merry Christmas,” he said.
Since taking over in 2018, Erasmus has been widely recognized for his ability to bring South Africans together and develop a feeling of community both on and off the field, and he appears to be just as dedicated to the cause as ever.
