Fans were treated to a wicked nice treat on Tuesday evening (Feb. 4), as Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish had an intimate talk.
Following a screening of Wicked at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles, the crowd became silent as the credits rolled, and all eyes were drawn to the double doors to the right of the stage. Soon, Grande and Eilish arrived arm in arm, taking their respective seats. After a small glitch in which Eilish did not have her questions, Grande offered to run and collect them, they were quickly handed to Eilish, and the chat began.
“You guys just watched my favorite movie,” Eilish told the gathering. To which Grande responded: “Ladies and gentlemen, Billie Eilish. Thank you for doing this. It means a lot to me. My team asked, ‘Who’s your dream person to accomplish this?’ And I said, “Billie Eilish.” But she is too busy, too fabulous, and it is too much. But when you answered yes, I was like, ‘Oh shit.’ Now I’m really nervous.”
After briefly exchanging a series of “I love yous,” Eilish, who also referred to Grande as “one of the greatest singers of our generation,” demonstrated how far back her adoration extends by quoting old YouTube comments from 2014. “I used to call you Ari, and my brother would say, ‘Don’t call her Ari. “You do not know her.”
Eilish then informed the audience that she would be asking a few questions, which were printed on the paper she was holding, and said unequivocally that the role of moderator “is not normal” for her. Nonetheless, she handled the position with professionalism.
