Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, is on the verge of attaining a milestone that only four other players have ever accomplished.
Rodgers, 41, has apparently turned back the clock in recent weeks, throwing eight touchdown passes and one interception in his last four games. With 23 touchdown passes this season, the Jets’ quarterback is tied with Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love and Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes for sixth place on the 2024 NFL leaderboard.
Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, came into the season with 475 career touchdown passes. He’s now just two away from reaching 500.
With two more throwing touchdowns, Rodgers would become only the fifth player in history to reach 500 career passing touchdowns. The California product is on the verge of joining Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539), and Brett Favre (508) in the elite 500 Club.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams, who visit MetLife Stadium on Sunday, December 22, have allowed 23 touchdown passes to opponents this season, for a 1.64 per game average.
Rodgers has to average 3 touchdown passes per game over the next three weeks of the season to beat Ryan Fitzpatrick’s (31) mark from 2015.
Although Rodgers has only two three-touchdown passes this season, the grizzled veteran insists he is in his best physical condition after dealing with nagging issues earlier this fall.
“He struggled with injury for a good part of the season, and as he’s getting healthier, you’re starting to see Aaron Rodgers, the real Aaron Rodgers,” Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich stated earlier this week.
