She undoubtedly inspired some of the Bee Gees’ most beautiful songs, including ‘Words’ and, more especially, ‘Let There Be Love’. Linda must be one hell of a woman; she was unquestionably beautiful, having won Miss Edinburgh in 1967.
That was the year she met Barry, who felt an instant connection and fell in love practically right away.
They married three years later, on September 1, 1970, in Caxton Hall in London, and have remained together through thick and thin.
In a 2017 interview on Piers Morgan: Life Stories, Barry revealed the key to their long-lasting love: “We tend to laugh a lot at everything around us [more] than we could find anything to be unhappy about.”
Opening candid to Piers Morgan about his life and career, Barry discussed his marriage and how he met Linda. She had just been Miss Edinburgh and was hosting an episode of Top Of The Pops when the Bee Gees hit number one with ‘Massachusetts’.
“We just saw each other across the room and something happened,” he added, describing how the two formed a spontaneous friendship. “The girls I was with exclaimed, ‘Oh my god, that guy is so handsome. He’s looking at you. Oh, he’s coming over,” she said.
“He asked if I wanted to go for a cup of tea.” When Morgan asked if it was love at first sight, Gibb responded, “I believe it was. In my brain, I thought, ‘That’s the woman I’ll spend my life with.'”
“[Linda] is a very, very exceptional individual. “She’s just so full of love and fun, and she has a great sense of humour,” Gibb said to Morgan. “We tend to laugh a lot at everything around us [more] than we could find anything to be unhappy about.”
It’s a slogan and a way of life together that has seen them through the many highs and lows of Barry’s life and career, including the deaths of his three brothers, Maurice, Robin, and Andy.
Even their second eldest son Ashley spoke to how much they still love each other, telling Piers Morgan: Life Stories, “They love each other today just as much as they did then.”
