Angel Reese’s move to promote her podcast appeared innocent, but not to Caitlin Clark’s supporters, who accused the Chicago Sky forward of snubbing the Indiana Fever ace’s WNBA Rookie of the Year victory, which she won ahead of Reese.
The 22-year-olds’ fierce competition from the NCAA carried into their debut season in professional basketball, as they both competed for the rookie award in the first half of the season before Clark’s amazing second half left her with no opponents.
In the end, she received 66 of the 67 votes for Rookie of the Year, with the other going to Reese, who had a terrific year with the Sky but was tragically injured late in the season.
The fact that Clark was not elected unanimous winner left a sour taste in the mouths of her followers after a year in which she was reluctantly thrust into the center of a racist incident, but Reese’s refusal to comment on the topic appears to have exacerbated the situation.
In light of that one mysterious individual that decided against Fever’s shooter for that honor, a few journalists went online to make sure they distanced themselves from being identified.
Terrika Foster-Brasby commented, “Just to be clear… it wasn’t me.” I voted for CC. So don’t blow me up or call me a hater, because IT WAS NOT TERRIKA.”
While Khristina Williams stated, “I had Caitlin Clark on my ballot for Rookie of the Year.”
What did Reese do when fans reacted? Reese did nothing wrong; she was only promoting her own show, which makes the social media backlash against the teenager even more puzzling because she did not purposefully avoid Clark.
“NEW EPISODE OUT NOW! We dropped some gems!!,” Reese wrote online, alluding to her Unapologetically Angel podcast. One person said on X.com, formerly Twitter, “You not finna congratulate your fellow mate for rookie of the year?”
