Dan Campbell unaware of Jared Goff’s perfect game, gives game ball to other Lions players

There was an unfortunate ending to Jared Goff’s wonderful night.
The Lions defeated the Seahawks in their Week 4 “Monday Night Football” game, thanks primarily to Jared Goff’s back – or, more accurately, arm. The Detroit quarterback completed the game with 18-for-18 passing for 292 yards and two scores. Oh, he also scored a receiving touchdown in the game.
One would assume that such a performance would get Goff the ceremonial game ball, right? Well, Lions head coach Dan Campbell was ignorant of Goff’s 18-for-18 performance, resulting in a major oopsie in the Lions’ locker room postgame.
“I just gave the game ball to somebody else,” Campbell stated after the victory. “So, I’m feeling bad right now.
“I knew he played a great game, but I had no idea he was immaculate. I had no idea he was literally 18 for 18.
Campbell laughed about it, but he also went out of his way to compliment his quarterback, despite the fact that he had no idea Goff had performed flawlessly.
The Lions were on the verge of making minced meat of the Seahawks by halftime, but a competitive, back-and-forth third quarter saw the game go to the wire. Finally, a clutch Goff pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown propelled the Lions ahead for good.
The issue remains: if not Goff, who? The game ball went to Detroit safety Kerby Joseph and wide receiver Jameson Williams. Joseph made the game-winning interception, while Williams caught two receptions for 80 yards, including a 70-yard catch-and-run to the end zone for a touchdown.
Those Lions are unquestionably worthy honourees. But the biggest – and only – gaffe of the Lions’ night was Campbell’s failure to pass the game ball to Goff.
