According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Alabama transfer linebacker Sterling Dixon has committed to North Carolina State via the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Dixon, a true freshman for the Crimson Tide this past season, will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Dixon, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 217 pounds, made only one tackle in three games in 2024, earning a redshirt.
Dixon was a four-star football prospect at Mobile (AL) Spanish Fort High School. He was the No. 209 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which is a weighted average of all four major recruitment media firms.
Auburn and LSU were two more programs pursuing Dixon out of high school. Despite his allegiance to Alabama, both made significant pushes. LSU’s was earlier in the cycle, but Auburn pushed hard immediately before national signing day.
Report: NC State hires D.J. Eliot as defensive coordinator.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Monday that North Carolina State is poised to select D.J. Eliot as its next defensive coordinator. Eliot most recently served as the linebackers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.
He formerly served as the defensive coordinator at Kentucky, Colorado, Kansas, and Temple. He takes over a Wolfpack defense that finished 6-7.
This past season, NC State rated No. 88 overall and No. 103 scoring defense. Eliot’s hiring comes shortly after the firing of offensive coordinator Robert Anae, and the Wolfpack must now begin the search for a new coordinator.
Eliot also has ACC experience, having served as an assistant at Florida State under Jimbo Fisher. In addition, he served as a graduate assistant at Miami in 2002.
