One of the best to ever play linebacker in the NFL is coming back for one more season, and giving Nebraska football fans another reason to root for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Earlier this week, it was announced that future Hall of Famer Lavonte David is coming back for at least one more season with the team he’s played his entire NFL career. The former Husker and Tampa squad have agreed to a one-year deal that will see him earn $10 million in 2025. In a period of time when most NFL talk is about how unhappy a player is with his team, it’s been refreshing to see David and his squad come to terms. It’s especially refreshing that a representative of the Cornhuskers can continue to reak havoc from his linebacker position.
The ex-Nebraska football star took to Instagram to confirm he’d agreed to the new deal: “I love the game to much to give it up just yet! Good lord blessing me with another opportunity so I figured I should take advantage of it! Tampa I’m not done yet! See you soon!”

It certainly makes sense that the Bucs will bring David back for one year at least. If there was a mistake here, it was that they didn’t make it longer.

That could signal that David is thinking about calling it a career. If he is, it looks like he’s still going to have plenty of fuel in the tank.
During the 2024 season, the linebacker played his 13th season as a starter in the NFL. He racked up 122 tackles and 5.5 sacks. That number was the most he’s gotten since tallied 7 sacks in his second year in the league.
Now the former Nebraska football star will continue to show what he can do in the NFL. And what he can do is be one of the best of the best. Year in and year out.
