Avril Lavigne opens up about terminal illness: I had to accept that I was dying and it felt like my body was dying
Avril Lavigne has not been part of the music scene in recent years, while she has finally spoken about the disease for which she has been treated for a long time.
Singer has suffered from Lyme disease, which has put her music career on hold – reveals Independent.
In an open letter addressed to fans, the 33-year-old said that she has gone through the worst years and fought the hardest fight in her life.

The singer launched her last album in 2013, while only two years later she was diagnosed with Lyme disease.
Lyme disease, which is also known as Lyme Borreliosa, is an infectious disease caused by the Borrelia bacteria species (Borrelia burgdorferi, Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia garinii) that is transmitted by ticks. The most common sign of infection is a large reddened area of skin called ‘erythema migrans’, which appears around the site of the tick bite. The disease can cause a number of physical and mental problems if not treated properly. It is mainly treated with antibiotics, while recovery can take several months or even years.
“I spent years fighting this evil disease. At one point I had to accept death and I could feel it as if my body was dying.”
“It felt like I was drowning, I was sinking and I had to surface and get air.”
“As if I were in a river and the current was pulling me down, while I needed so much to breathe,” wrote Lavigne, saying that while she was sick, she felt closer to God.
Through the letter published in its official website, she wanted to raise people’s awareness of this serious disease.
“A simple bug bite can ruin your life. People do not understand that this disease must be treated immediately”, added the singer. /Telegraph/
