The Pacers star is only 24, while James will turn 40 in December. They are far apart in age, yet both terrific basketball players right now. Both were All-Stars and All-NBA performers last season before overlapping with the red, white, and blue.
During the Los Angeles Lakers media day, James told Spectrum Sportsnet that Haliburton made several comments about his age this summer. “Ant man (Anthony Edwards), for sure. Tyrese Haliburton, those boys were on me all summer.
“Call me old head, grandpa, and things like that,” James said with a smile. While in Paris, the great Lakers forward revealed that his gray hairs had begun to show. “The young guys on Team Olympics gave it to me, man,” James said.
“It was all fun. It’s fantastic to be with young men. They gave me energy, and I attempted to return it to them.”
Haliburton, James, and their team won the gold medal, which was a significant achievement in Haliburton’s professional career.
The Pacers’ guard played the fewest minutes and games of any player on the team during the Olympics, but he enjoyed the experience and believes he can apply what he learned in the NBA.
Micah Potter, who spent much of the summer with Team USA, recounted a time when Haliburton’s shot-making outperformed James in a shooting drill during a United States practice. Following the Olympics, Haliburton tweeted childhood photos of himself wearing James’ Team USA jersey, to which the Lakers star reacted.
“The game is in great hands,” James stated about Haliburton. Those two appear to have built some sort of relationship at the Olympics, and Haliburton will now try to emulate some of his idol’s practices throughout his career.
