After two seasons in Ann Arbor, Michigan running back Benjamin Hall has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, as first reported by On3.
Hall, who will have three years of eligibility remaining, likely departs in search of a more prominent role elsewhere after being buried on the Wolverinesā depth chart over the last two seasons.
A three-star recruit out of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia, Hall came to Michigan in the 2023 class with respectable credentials. He was ranked the No. 73 running back in the nation and the No. 106 overall prospect in the state of Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Despite his potential, Hall saw limited action over the last two seasons as the teamās third-string back, with opportunities to contribute coming few and far between. Over the course of two seasons, he carried the ball 44 times for 141 yards, preserving three years of eligibility.
Hall had recently spoken to the media about the competitive nature of Michiganās running back room and the uncertainty surrounding playing time in a more pass-heavy offense.
āI think any great program is going to rotate multiple running backs,ā Hall said. āI donāt think thatāll be any different here. But at some point when the gameās on the line, you kinda got to know who to go to.ā
Unfortunately for Hall, it appeared that his number was not going to be called in those key moments. With Alabama transfer Justice Haynes entering the fold and sophomore Jordan Marshall surging, the path to playing time was likely looking like a repeat of yearās past.
