Now that Michigan has their five star quarterback locked in Sherrone Moore and his staff need to level up their recruiting at offensive skill positions. The defensive side of the ball is always on point. The offensive line is generally a strong spot. The tight ends have been good in many years for Michigan too. However, the team just lost Colston Loveland to the NFL Draft and the wide receiver group is questionable, at best.
To address this Michigan has been chasing after a number of high pedigree wide receiver recruits for 2026 and 2027 this offseason. They’ve gained some momentum with a few, and signed one speedster for next year already in Jaylen Pile. Now they’re gaining momentum with a possible five star wide receiver in the 2027 class.
Monshun Sales, Five Star WR Recruit
After an impressive sophomore season last fall, Monshun Sales burst onto the top tier recruiting talent scene as a potential five star player (currently Top 30 via both On3 Industry Consensus and 247Sports Composite). As the momentum of his explosive season was still building a few offers began coming in, but this spring interest in Sales skyrocketed.
Michigan, Texas A&M, Missouri, Penn State, Notre Dame,, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and other top programs have already offered him, some logging early visits too. His in-state schools, Indiana and Purdue, have logged the most contact with him already, but now he’s headed to Michigan for the second time in the last four months alone. According to Sales he’s on campus this week (Thursday) for spring practice.
It seems as though this spring is a race among the entire Big Ten to land him as he’s visited Penn State, Purdue, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and now Michigan all within the last 60 days. It’s clear he’s a top priority for many elite college football programs, and for good reason.
The tall, lanky, fast, five star talent eats up ground quickly with his long strides. His size, smooth movement, and ball skills are quite reminiscent of the Michigan recruiting era that brought in guys like Nico Collins and Donovan Peoples-Jones. Sales caught a touchdown on over 20% of his touches last year, averaging more than 50 yards per game in an offense that saw just less than 150 completions on the entire season. That kind of dominant outside receiver is something the team truly hasn’t had since Nico Collins.
Now he’s set to be the star wide receiver for a Top 100 high school football program in the entire nation for the next two seasons (now that two senior wide receivers have departed).
Michigan badly needs to start winning some of these top recruiting battles again if they want to continue pulling in top quarterback talent like Bryce Underwood. Donaven McCulley, Fred Moore, Semaj Morgan, and perhaps Anthony Simpson aren’t exactly a star-studded receiver group. It’s spring, so early reports are promising on that crew, but landing game-changing talents like Monshun Sales needs to become the norm again for Michigan.
Let’s hope Sherrone Moore and company can work their way into Monshun Sales’ top few schools following his visit this week. If so, they could spark some offensive momentum where they need it most.
