Castle enthralled audiences for years, and its unexpected cancellation and rumoured on-set drama have remained with fans after its 2016 finale.
The ABC drama began in 2009 and starred the unusual pairing of author Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). Castle and Beckett’s uneasy relationship eventually developed into an unstoppable crime-fighting duo.
In April 2016, it was revealed that Katic would be dropped off the show for season 8 owing to purported budget cuts. However, a source informed Us Weekly exclusively at the time that Katic’s exit was due to off-screen animosity with Fillion.
“Nathan has been nasty to Stana for a long time,” the insider stated, while another source told Us, “It got so out of hand that they made Stana and Nathan go to couples counselling together.”
Shortly before confirming her departure, Katic’s representative denied any concerns with Fillion. ABC cancelled Castle in May 2016, with the final episode airing that month.
