Tottenham have been tipped to make a surprise move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
Fraser Forster has acted as Spurs’ number two this season, filling in for Guglielmo Vicario while the Italian has been sidelined with an ankle injury. However, the 36-year-old is expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season.
That would leave Brandon Austin – who looked promising in the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (4 January), and brand new signing Antonín Kinský fighting it out for the number two position.
However, ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final with the Reds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday (8 January), Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested the North London club should sign Liverpool shot-stopper Kelleher this month, despite already signing Kinský.
“If there was a plan to get a genuine alternative to Vicario in the summer, then those plans should be brought forward,” Wenham said.
“The club have got the money to do it now. Therefore, I don’t understand why they wouldn’t. Those in control need to realise the significance of the situation we are in and spend some money.
“For example, it looks as though Kelleher might be available this summer, with Giorgi Mamardashvili due to arrive at the club and Alisson likely to stick around. Therefore, go and sign him now, pay the money.”
Tottenham to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher?
If Kelleher is going to leave Anfield, which is a likely possibility considering the competition for places on Merseyside, Tottenham should absolutely put themselves forward.
Kelleher has impressed every time he has played for the Reds and is more than deserving of a first-team spot at a big Premier League club, and Ange Postecoglou would no doubt benefit from the Irishman’s potential arrival.

And although he could be signed as a backup, some might argue that the 26-year-old would actually be a better option than Vicario based on recent form.
