Despite this, his passion for motorcycle racing remained undiminished. In 2019, Rainey made a triumphant return to riding at the Sound of Engine Festival in Suzuka, Japan, where he rode a specially modified Yamaha R1. In 2022, Rainey participated in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, riding his 1992 Yamaha YZR500, which had been meticulously adapted by Yamaha engineers to accommodate his needs. This emotional reunion was a testament to his resilience and the advancements in adaptive technology. Reflecting on the experience, Rainey expressed his excitement and gratitude, stating, “I was quite nervous about riding the YZR500… but, to be honest, it felt like an old friend.”
