The New York Giants will hope that the upcoming offseason is one of significant change. After a 3-14 season, anything less would be untenable.
However, general manager Joe Schoen has also proven that there’s room for continuity in the locker room. There’s a reason he didn’t trade edge rusher Azeez Ojulari or receiver Darius Slayton at the trade deadline. Perhaps offers simply weren’t sufficient, or the compensatory market may be more favorable, but New York now has a better chance of keeping these veterans around, getting first dibs at re-signing them.
Schoen made sure another contributor would remain in East Rutherford just days before the start of the new league year.
The Giants re-signed special teams captain and long snapper Casey Kreiter ahead of free agency.
Notably, Kreiter has been a captain twice before, as voted by his peers, donning the “C” in 2022 and 2024. In a locker room with legitimate turnover, losing running back Saquon Barkley, quarterback Daniel Jones, safety Xavier McKinney, and others in a short span, leadership becomes all the more valuable. He might not be a household name, but Kreiter’s impact is apparent to those in the building every day.
If his football character is his defining trait, Kreiter’s durability isn’t far behind. After playing 10 games in 2016, he’s appeared in every possible game for the next eight seasons.
That journey began with the Denver Broncos, where he earned a bid to the Pro Bowl, but has since carried over to New York, where he has spent each of the last five seasons.
