A West Lothian woman was left “shaken” after seeing a lorry crash through a barrier in wintery conditions.
Daiquiri Dusk was driving along the slip lane onto the M8 at junction 4 Heartlands on Saturday morning, November 23, when a lorry “lost control in the snow”.
It comes as Storm Bert struck the capital on Saturday morning, bringing heavy snow and treacherous conditions. Police reported many car crashes.
Daiquri told Edinburgh Live that she and the truck driver were unharmed, but she wanted to make sure he was okay.
Images from the incident show the lorry after it went through the barrier, with a thick blanket of snow surrounding it.
Daiquiri stated, “It happened shortly before 11.30 a.m. I am well; neither I nor the lorry driver were wounded. He did not touch my car, but the lorry was damaged after going through the barrier at the side of the highway.
“I paused to see whether he was all right. A lovely man in a black SUV also stopped to see whether we were okay. Then another SUV arrived, carrying two ambulance professionals, and they rushed to check on the driver.
“I am home safely now, but very shaken by the incident.”
While the snow has subsided in Edinburgh and the Lothians, motorists have deemed the roads hazardous to drive on.
Throughout the morning, cars were left trapped in the snow, and Lothian Buses had earlier ceased operations.
According to the Met Office, Storm Bert is moving slowly and will not fully clear until Monday. The start of the week will be unpredictable, with strong winds and showers expected. Although temperatures will be about average in most regions, gusty winds may make it seem quite chilly.”
