Chicago Sky star Angel Reese wrote an impassioned farewell to the club’s head coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, who was reportedly fired after less than a year on the job.“I am heartbroken. I’m at a loss for words after realizing how much this woman meant to me at such a key period in my life. “She was the only person who believed in me,” Reese wrote in part on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Reese was one of the bright points for a Sky squad that finished 13-27 and just missed out on the playoffs. Reese established the WNBA single-season rebounding record in 2024, her debut year.
Weatherspoon, who played in the WNBA from 1997 to 2004, was named as the team’s head coach in October 2023 following three seasons as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Sky were coached by James Wade to begin the 2023 season, however he quit in July 2023 to become an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors.
Emre Vatansever, temporary head coach, led the Sky to an 11-13 record in 2023.
